Environmental studies, Doctoral study
180 credits - Ph.D. degree
The program is a three-year research-based graduate program in environmental studies at the Faculty of Environmental and Civil Engineering. The program is based on a 180-unit research project. The doctoral committee can require that the student also complete courses.
Admission requirements
- MS degree or equivalent in engineering, natural sciences, environmental studies, planning studies or architecture.
- Students from related fields can be admitted if certain prerequisites are met.
- Applicants for a doctoral program must have a supervisor and an idea for a project before applying for a program.
About studies
The doctoral program mainly consists of research that ends with a 180-credit doctoral thesis. The doctoral committee can require that a student in a doctoral program also complete courses. Credits for courses are added to the program. The courses are advanced courses chosen in consultation with the supervising teacher.

It is assumed that the students are in a full three-year course. More information about physical standards can be found in the syllabus.
