Program Overview


French Studies

MA 120 units

In the master's program in French studies, students gain deeper knowledge of their field of study and receive training in academic methods and presentation of material.


About the Study

The program is 120 credits and is set up as a full-time program for two years. The program is divided into:


  • Compulsory course, 35 credits
  • Elective courses, 0 - 55 credits
  • Master's thesis, 30/40/60 credits

The student chooses an elective course based on his or her field of interest in consultation with the permanent supervisor in the subject. It is allowed to take up to 30e in master's level courses in other subjects.


Arrangement of Teaching

The program is taught in French, English and Icelandic. Students are encouraged to take part of their studies at partner universities abroad, e.g. in France, Belgium or Canada. French teachers provide information on these study options and assist students in choosing courses. Studying at a foreign university is valued at a maximum of 60e


Translation Studies - French

In collaboration with the Department of Icelandic and Culture, a study in translation studies is offered as a secondary subject. Contact the project manager of the Department of Icelandic and Culture for questions about the Translation studies program.


Main objective

It is assumed that students:


  • Acquire expertise in French studies
  • Can use the language to communicate their knowledge at an academic level
  • Know academic subjects and issues
  • Can make use of the latest knowledge in the context of a relevant specialist field

Other

An MA degree in French gives the right to apply for a doctoral program.


Admission requirements

BA degree in French studies with a first grade (7.25) and 10e final thesis, or an equivalent degree from another university.


Study requirements

At least 120 credits are required for an MA degree. The student plans his studies in consultation with the permanent supervisor of the subject.
