A doctoral program in Danish is a three-year research-based graduate program where students work independently on their own research projects. The scope of a research project must be 180 units and it can cover different fields of study: literature, linguistics, Jewish studies, cultural studies.

Student associations
Students pursuing doctoral studies in the Humanities can join the Association of Doctoral Students and Postdoctoral Fellows at the University of Iceland. They are also automatically registered in the Association of Doctoral Students in the Faculty of Humanities, which works on the interests of doctoral students in the field, provides information to them, nominates representatives of doctoral students in councils and committees, and organizes social work among doctoral students in the Faculty of Humanities.

The Humanities office is located on the 3rd floor of the University's main building at Sćmundargatu 2. The office is open at 10-12 and 13-15 every weekday.
