Introduction to the AERIAS Internship

The Centre for Advancing Engineering, Research and Innovation in Aerospace (AERIAS) offers a unique internship program that connects talented engineering students with leading Canadian aerospace companies. This program provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, make meaningful contributions to the industry, and potentially secure sought-after positions.

Program Overview

AERIAS is a competitive program that selects students based on academic excellence. The program is open to domestic and international students enrolled in their second or third year, with a good academic standing. Students in their fourth year must be planning to return to school in the fall semester. Occasionally, graduate students are also invited to participate, depending on the scope and duration of the specific assignment.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the AERIAS internship, students must:

  • Be enrolled in their second or third year (or fourth year with plans to return to school in the fall semester)
  • Have a good academic standing
  • Include a study permit and a work permit in their application (for international students)
  • Note that a Co-op permit is not considered a valid substitute for the required study and work permits

Program Structure

The AERIAS internship program offers:

  • Paid work placements with leading Canadian aerospace companies
  • Opportunities to work on significant projects and make meaningful contributions to the company
  • A duration of 4-16 months, with the possibility of extension
  • An hourly wage rate of generally $20 per hour, with compensation for vacation, benefits, and statutory holidays

Application Process

To apply for the AERIAS internship, students must:

  • Fill out and submit the application form
  • Provide three mandatory supporting documents:
    1. Cover letter: addressing the Centre for Advanced Engineering Research and Innovation in Aerospace, highlighting relevant technical and problem-solving skills
    2. Resume: including computer skills, technical skills, relevant employment history, and education history
    3. Unofficial transcripts: downloaded from MyServiceHub
  • Combine the supporting documents into one PDF, titled "FirstNameLastName_GeneralApplicant"
  • Upload and submit the application form and PDF

Placement Opportunities

AERIAS facilitates placements with leading Canadian aerospace companies, including:

  • Bombardier
  • Pratt & Whitney Canada
  • Collins Aerospace
  • MHI RJ Aviation
  • De Havilland
  • Magellan

Completion Requirements

Students will have successfully completed the program once the industry supervisor determines that the project's goals have been achieved and the contract term is fulfilled.
