Program Overview
Program Overview
The Politics and Governance program at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) provides students with a comprehensive understanding of how important decisions are made in today's society. This encompasses decision-making at the international, national, provincial, and local levels, involving both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Program Details
The program focuses on how social, environmental, economic, political, and justice issues are addressed in Canada and globally. It explores the concept of 'good governance,' including its meaning and how social justice, democracy, citizenship, and human rights are integrated into governance. Students will delve into the complexities of governance, particularly in areas such as social welfare, immigration, social justice, and criminal justice, and how these issues have led governments to increasingly rely on the private and non-profit/voluntary sectors for service delivery.
Available Majors
- The program offers the opportunity for double majors with the following disciplines:
- Criminology
- History
- Sociology
This allows students to broaden their academic pursuits and specialize in multiple areas of interest, enhancing their understanding of the complex interactions between governance, society, and individual disciplines.
