The Certificat d'Université en Médecine d'Urgence (TPPSU) is a university certificate program in emergency medicine.
Objectifs de la formation
The program aims to provide clinical training in emergency medicine, with a focus on practice in a hospital setting. The training is organized under the auspices of the SPF Santé Publique and is entirely the responsibility of the Faculté de Médecine.

Public ciblé
The program is accessible to medical specialists with a Belgian or recognized diploma in medicine (or in their final year of training) in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, anesthesiology, cardiology, gastroenterology, pneumology, rheumatology, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, urology, neurology, or neurosurgery.
Pré-requis
To be eligible for the program, candidates must:
- Hold a Belgian or recognized diploma in medicine
- Have recognition as a medical specialist (such as an internist or anesthesiologist or pediatrician or surgeon or cardiologist or neurologist or gastroenterologist, ...)
Calendrier & inscriptions
The program takes place over two years in approved hospital training services. Theoretical teaching is also provided in the evening on the campus of the Faculté de Médecine and in certain hospitals.
Programme
The program includes:
- In-depth questions on emergencies: cardiology, abdominal viscera, pneumology, neurology, medical imaging and investigations, metabolic and infectious emergencies
- In-depth questions on emergencies: pediatrics, psychiatry and psychosocial emergencies, legislation, ethics, and economics of emergency medicine
- Complements of traumatology
- Complements of clinical toxicology and environmental pathology
- Disaster medicine
Evaluations et travail de fin de formation – 15 ECTS
The program includes an annual ministerial evaluation based on the quality of clinical work during internships. Candidates must also present an original thesis in the field of emergency medicine, based on data collected retrospectively or prospectively and analyzed personally by the candidate.
