Program Overview
Introduction to the Chorale Program
The Chorale program at the Universitť Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) offers a unique opportunity for members of the university community to engage in singing and musical activities. With a rich history dating back to 1935, the program has evolved to include a diverse range of musical styles and genres.
Program Description
The Chorale's repertoire is primarily focused on harmonized student songs, with a secondary repertoire of paillardes from renowned composers spanning the Middle Ages to the 19th century. The program is designed to be accessible to all members of the university community, including students, staff, retirees, and alumni, regardless of their vocal quality or prior musical experience.
Participation and Rehearsals
To participate in the Chorale, individuals are expected to demonstrate a willingness to invest time and effort. A basic understanding of solfege is useful, but support can be provided for those who need it. Rehearsals are held approximately four times a month, with additional sessions scheduled as concerts approach. Regular rehearsals take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Maison des Anciens Etudiants (UAE) on the La Plaine campus, in the Caveau room.
Concerts and Events
The Chorale regularly organizes concerts and events, including at least two annual concerts: the Beffroi in Tournai in early October and the Festival de la Chanson Estudiantine at Janson in November. All concerts presented by the Chorale are free of charge.
