Introduction to CECi

The Certificat d'Université en Engagement Citoyen (CECi) is a certificate of continuing education created by ULB Engagée, valued at 10 credits. It allows individuals to engage in societal service, facilitate and academically valorize their field engagement, and develop a network in the associative sector.

Target Audience

CECi is open to all young people in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, whether they are students or not, and whether they are already invested in an association or simply ready to act for collective well-being.

Program Structure

CECi consists of three complementary dimensions:

1. Online Courses

These courses are based on concrete cases and a variety of audiovisual supports. They are divided into four modules developed with experts and can be taken in any order, before, during, or after the volunteer internship.

2. Volunteer Internship

The learning process is based on a field internship with a mission that complements the theoretical training. Finding an internship opportunity is a prerequisite for applying for the certificate. The mission must be carried out in a non-profit organization for a minimum of 150 hours, which can be spread over two years.

3. Participatory Workshops

Monthly workshops are organized to allow exchange between students participating in CECi, with the aim of creating a community of engaged students and encouraging collaboration. These workshops combine the development and practical application of skills and knowledge, putting participants in touch with inspiring people, using collective intelligence, and moments of relaxation.

Validation of CECi

The validation of the certificate is done through the submission of a portfolio, which is a collection of selected and structured works. The portfolio includes an auto-reflexive analysis, an assessment by the internship supervisor, and five productions. It is analyzed by a jury of ULB academics based on a grid that evaluates both the quality of the work presented and the participant's reflectivity and distance from their learning.

• A flexible curriculum, with theoretical training that starts at the participant's chosen date, allowing each person to progress at their own pace. It is possible to complete the certificate in a maximum of 2 years.
• An opportunity for an internship within a non-profit organization, which can be a valuable experience.

Practical Information

• The next academic year will start in October 2026, with registrations opening in August 2026.
• The courses are available exclusively online and can be consulted at each participant's own pace.
• Six or seven participatory workshops are planned per academic year, usually taking place in person on the ULB campuses.
• ULB Engagée generally offers about thirty places, each valued at 600, which participants do not have to pay to follow CECi.
• To participate, it is necessary to have found a volunteer internship opportunity (minimum 150 hours), with the name of the internship organization, the coordinates of the internship supervisor, and the mission required in the application form.
