Program Overview


Master of Specialization in Medicine

The Master of Specialization in Medicine is a postgraduate program that provides advanced training in a specific medical specialty. To be eligible for this program, candidates must hold a medical degree and meet specific admission criteria.


Admission Criteria for Candidates with a Medical Degree from a Non-EU Country

To be considered for admission, candidates must:


  • Have completed at least the first year of a medical specialty training program in a non-EU country
  • Be recognized as a specialist in a non-EU country and wish to acquire a specific technique or expertise in their field
  • Be recommended by a university in a non-EU country to a Belgian university
  • Hold a certificate from the Ministry of Health in their country of origin, proving that they are authorized to practice medicine
  • Be in possession of an official scholarship certificate, which must specify the amount and duration of the scholarship
  • Obtain a waiver for the exercise of healthcare professions (article 49ter)

Documents Issued at the End of the Program

Upon completion of the program, candidates will receive:


  • A University Certificate of Partial Specialized Medical Training (CUFMSP)
  • A University Certificate of Complementary Specialized Medical Training (CUFMSC)

Admission Criteria for Candidates with a Medical Degree from an EU Country

To be eligible for the program, candidates must:


  • Hold a Master's degree in Medicine from a university in an EU country
  • Be authorized to practice medicine in their country of origin
  • Be registered with the Order of Physicians in Belgium

Admission Criteria for Candidates with a Degree in Dental Sciences from an EU Country

To be eligible for the program, candidates must:


  • Hold a Master's degree in Dental Sciences from a university in an EU country
  • Be authorized to practice dental sciences in their country of origin
  • Be registered with the Society of Dental Medicine in Belgium

Program Structure

The program consists of:


  • Practical training in recognized hospitals and clinics
  • Theoretical training organized by the Faculty of Medicine
  • Evaluation of theoretical, practical, and research skills
  • Completion of a final thesis

Certification

Upon completion of the program, candidates will be awarded a Master's degree in Specialization in Medicine and a certification to practice their specialty, issued by the Minister of Public Health.
