Introduction to the Industrial PhD Program UPatras IQ
The University of Patras has established the "Industrial PhD Program UPatras IQ" to foster strong and fruitful connections between the academic and industrial sectors, benefiting all collaborating parties.
Basic Information
What is the Program?
The "Industrial PhD Program UPatras IQ" supports four-year doctoral programs with an industrial orientation, undertaken in collaboration with the University of Patras, a private enterprise/industry based in Greece, and a scholarship holder who is a PhD candidate.
- The program involves a total budget of €48,000 for each funded project, with 50% covered by the University's own funds and 50% by the collaborating enterprises/industries.
- The annual compensation (scholarship) for each doctoral program is set at €12,000, totaling €48,000 for the four years of the program per scholarship holder.
Key Characteristics
- The doctoral degree is awarded by the University of Patras, and the faculty member who submits the proposal will also be the supervisor of the scholarship holder.
- The enterprise/industry designates one of its staff members as the Scientific Representative, responsible for supporting the research project of the scholarship holder.
- The scholarship holder cannot be an employee of the enterprise/industry, the University of Patras, or any other public or private entity.
- The scholarship holder may utilize the infrastructure of both the University of Patras and the enterprise/industry for their research.
- The intellectual property rights of the doctoral dissertation belong to all parties involved and are defined in a Private Agreement.
Submission of Proposals
- Proposals are submitted exclusively by faculty members of the University of Patras in collaboration with an enterprise/industry through the program's electronic platform.
- Proposals can be submitted in either Greek or English.
- Start-up/knowledge-intensive enterprises receive preferential treatment in the evaluation.

The Principal Investigators of projects funded by the "Industrial PhD UPatras IQ" program are obligated to acknowledge the financial support from the University of Patras program in every publication, doctoral dissertation, or scientific poster resulting from the funded project.
