Doctoral Program of Studies

The Doctoral Program of Studies of the Department of Biology, School of Natural Sciences, University of Patras, aims to deepen knowledge, transmit high-quality and modern scientific research principles, apply them to promote scientific knowledge in areas/objects treated by the Department of Biology of the University of Patras and its broader science, as well as educate and train scientists capable of contributing to the progress and evolution of science and basic research.

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Doctoral Program of Studies is to provide advanced education and training in biological sciences, enabling graduates to contribute to the advancement of science and research. The program aims to produce highly qualified scientists who can work in research, academic, and professional environments.

Admission Requirements

The right to submit an application for enrollment in the Doctoral Program of Studies is granted to anyone who holds a postgraduate diploma awarded by a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Greece or abroad, or a graduate of an undergraduate program of studies at an HEI with a minimum duration of five years, equivalent to 300 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits.

Selection Process

The selection of Doctoral Candidates is made by a decision of the Department's Assembly, which has undertaken to support the doctoral program of studies.

Duration of Studies

The duration of studies for the acquisition of a doctoral diploma cannot be less than three (3) full calendar years from the date of appointment of the Supervisory Committee. The maximum duration for completing the doctoral studies is six (6) calendar years.

Program Structure

The Doctoral Program of Studies is designed to provide advanced education and training in biological sciences, with a focus on research and scientific inquiry. The program includes coursework, research, and the preparation of a doctoral dissertation.
