Program Overview
The Laboratory of Stage Practice and Speech of the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Patras, in collaboration with the Municipal Benefit Enterprise of Patras - Patras Carnival, implements the program "The Lie and the Truth in Fairy Tales".
Program Details
The workshops, which started on December 7, 2021, and will continue until May 13, 2022 (every Tuesday and Friday), allow elementary school students to attend narrations of Greek folk fairy tales. These fairy tales have their roots in the ancient East and were born simultaneously in all cultures, from India and China to Greece and the rest of Europe. The fairy tales are magical, zoological, humorous, educational, and comforting, taking place in a fairy tale world that transcends the boundaries of reality. In this world, both young and old listeners find what fascinates them and identify with it as a legacy and valuable personal heritage for their life's journey.
Program Activities
The young listeners in room K7 attend the narrations of the fairy tales, participate in creative listening, and then "create" by choosing each time to either make their own fairy tale, compose a song, or create masks and costumes for the heroes.
Program Responsibilities
The program "The Lie and the Truth in Fairy Tales" is led by Despina Georgakopoulou (Acting II and Acting in the Context of Theatre in Education) and Maria Fragi (Teaching of Theatre II - Theatre and Drama in Primary Education), members of the EEP of the Department of Theatre Studies and instructors at the Laboratory of Stage Practice and Speech. Third- and fourth-year students and other members of the Laboratory, as part of their training, prepare and narrate traditional Greek fairy tales to students in Patras.
Collaborations
The program collaborates with various institutions, including:
- Barba-Varley Foundation ISTA "Learning to see"
- ODIN TEATRET
- Centre of Theatre Anthropology
