PlantUP Program
The PlantUP program aims to develop cutting-edge infrastructure for the utilization and conservation of Greek biodiversity through applied research. The program focuses on the research and exploitation of plant capital to develop high-value natural products. Highly trained specialists in botany, agronomy, chemistry, and technology of natural products, genetics, analytical chemistry, and phytoprotection collaborate to create this infrastructure.
Objectives
- Collection, recognition, storage, and ex situ cultivation of native aromatic and medicinal plants in the Botanical Garden
- Systematic and phytochemical identification of plant material in the Botanical Garden
- Dissemination of results through organization and participation in relevant seminars, international scientific conferences, and publication in international peer-reviewed journals
Activities
- Collection and installation of domestic aromatic and medicinal plants in the Botanical Garden
- Systematic and phytochemical identification of plant material
- Dissemination of results
Funding
The program is funded by the Operational Program "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation" under the European Social Fund (ESF) with co-financing from Greece and the European Union.
