Program Overview


Program Description

The Practical Training (..) aims to provide students with initial professional training and to connect the Department with businesses. The institution of Practical Training has been active in the Department of Chemical Engineering since the mid-1980s, and since 1993, it has been an elective course.


Program Objectives

The objectives of the Practical Training are to:


  • Provide students with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting
  • Enhance students' skills and competencies in a professional environment
  • Foster collaboration between the Department and businesses

Program Requirements

The requirements for students to participate in the Practical Training are:


  • The duration of the Practical Training must be at least 8 weeks, during the period of July-August, in businesses, institutions, and organizations that operate in a field related to the knowledge and activities of Chemical Engineering.
  • The businesses/institutions can be located in Greece, for Practical Training supported by the ESPA, or abroad.
  • Students can choose from a list of over 200 businesses or search for and propose new ones.

Program Organization

The organization of the Practical Training in the Department includes:


  • Informing interested students about the Practical Training in a special seminar
  • Announcing the database of businesses that offer Practical Training positions
  • Organizing visits to businesses of interest to Chemical Engineers
  • Communicating with businesses and organizations
  • Organizing a two-day conference for the presentation of Practical Training results

Additional Information

  • The Department's Practical Training office collaborates with the University's Practical Training office to facilitate the program.
  • A committee of faculty members, under the instructor's supervision, coordinates the offering of positions by businesses, prepares and distributes information sheets, determines the subject and duration of each student's training, monitors the implementation, receives and evaluates technical reports, and organizes the Presentation/Audit Day of the Practical Training.
