The Costa Rica: Nursing program is designed for students to travel throughout Costa Rica, experiencing healthcare in rural and urban settings. This program aims to provide students with an understanding of social determinants of health and the role of community and family on healthcare and health outcomes.

Academic Credit

Students register for 3 credits of undergraduate or graduate credit.

Cost & Scholarship Availability

Costs include tuition, program fee, study abroad administrative fee, and out-of-pocket expenses. Scholarships are available to students.

Program Objectives

The program is designed to move beyond the clinical, recognizing the multi-faceted aspects of health. Students will learn about the Costa Rican healthcare system, intercultural contexts that impact patients, and trans-border health challenges posed by annual group migration. With faculty guidance, students reflect on their experiences to integrate what they observe, experience, and learn into both their professional and personal lives.
