Program Overview
Chemistry Major B.A.
The B.A. degree in Chemistry provides a sound science background along with emphasis on the humanities, social sciences, and language.
The Bachelor of Arts program is for those students who do not plan on pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry, but wish to pursue a career that will incorporate their background in chemistry, such as a laboratory setting, K-12 education (with additional credentialing), law, etc.
Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry, you are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society; however, completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify you for certification.
Careers with a Chemistry Degree
Students with a B.A. in chemistry can go on to a wide range of higher education and career opportunities, such as:
- Laboratory work
- K-12 education (with additional credentialing)
- Business
- Marketing
- Law The Chemistry B.A. can also be complemented with the OHIO Entrepreneurship Certificate or OHIO Law, Justice & Culture Certificate.
Examples of possible employers for those with chemistry degrees include, but are not limited to:
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
- U.S. Department of Agriculture
- Public health departments
- Institutions of higher education
- The chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and biotechnology industries

Chemistry B.A. Courses & Curriculum
Students must complete a total of 39 semester credit hours of CHEM coursework, plus math and physics extra-departmental requirements.
