Introduction to the Painting + Drawing Program
The Painting + Drawing program is based on the belief that painting and drawing are a language that upholds tradition while constantly seeking experimentation. In a supportive and challenging atmosphere, students are asked to question intentions, investigate, and expand their ideas of painting and drawing.

Students in the Painting + Drawing program will learn to develop a coherent body of work that is the beginning of their dialogue with the world.
Career Opportunities
Students in this program have gone on to receive Fulbright Awards, national artist-in-residencies, gallery representation, university teaching positions, and many other types of professional positions in the field.
Admission
Students can start out as B.A. or B.F.A. Studio Art majors, or start out in the B.A. Studio Art major and then apply to enter the B.F.A. degree at a later date. There are no requirements beyond University admission requirements to become a Studio Art major.
Applying to the Painting + Drawing Concentration
After completing the Foundations program and taking four, 2000-level studio art classes (two of which must be in the concentration area of Painting + Drawing), students must submit an application and portfolio to declare a Painting + Drawing concentration.
Painting + Drawing Faculty
All faculty in the Painting + Drawing area are working artists who exhibit actively and serve as visiting artists and lecturers at colleges and galleries across the country. The faculty includes:

- David LaPalombara, Professor of Painting + Drawing and Chair of Foundations
- Julie Dummermuth, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing
Program Overview
The Painting + Drawing program is a concentration within the B.F.A. Studio Art program. It is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in painting and drawing, and to prepare them for careers in the field.
Concentration Requirements
To declare a Painting + Drawing concentration, students must complete the Foundations program and take four, 2000-level studio art classes (two of which must be in the concentration area of Painting + Drawing). They must also submit an application and portfolio.
Graduate Programs
The university also offers graduate programs in Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Painting + Drawing, Photography + Integrated Media, Printmaking, Sculpture + Expanded Practice, and other related fields.

The university offers various certificates, including the Museum Studies Undergraduate Certificate, Graduate Museum Studies Certificate, Visual Arts Management Certificate, Biomedical Arts Certificate, Arts Administration Graduate Certificate, and Graduate Arts in Health Certificate.
