OHIO Esports Broadcasting Program
The OHIO Esports Broadcasting program is designed to provide students with experiential learning opportunities in live internet-based broadcasting. The program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to work in the esports industry, specifically in broadcasting.
Program Description
Students participating in the program will assist the director of esports with broadcasting competitive events alongside a team of student broadcasters. Their responsibilities will include setting the schedule for broadcasts, ensuring timely starts and ends, and meeting obligations to corporate partners. They will also prepare the arena for live events, including testing cameras and using production software to connect in-house broadcasting to streaming platforms.
Program Details
- Timing: The program takes place in the early fall semester (September 1mid-October) and early spring (late Januarymid March). Students will be mentored by the Esports Director and the broadcast producer for each competitive title, including Rocket League, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and League of Legends. The program's duration is approximately 6-8 weeks in each semester. During this time, students will gain hands-on experience in broadcasting and production, working closely with the esports team to deliver high-quality live streams. The program's schedule is designed to accommodate students' academic commitments, with flexible hours to ensure that participants can balance their coursework with program responsibilities. Key milestones and deadlines will be communicated to students at the beginning of each semester, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the program's demands. By the end of the program, students will have developed a comprehensive understanding of esports broadcasting, including pre-production, live broadcasting, and post-production. They will also have gained valuable experience in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, essential skills for success in the esports industry. Academic Credit
Students can earn practicum credits through Scripps' McClure School or internship credits with the College of Business.
Cost and Scholarship Availability
The program is free, and students do not incur any costs for participating.
Eligibility
The program is open to students of all class years, including first-year, second-year, third-year, and fourth-year students. Eligible colleges include the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education, Honors Tutorial College, Scripps College of Communication, and University College. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at Ohio University, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and demonstrate a strong interest in esports and broadcasting. Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, as the program is designed to be interdisciplinary and inclusive. The program's eligibility criteria are designed to ensure that participants are motivated, committed, and well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the program.
