B.S. in Computer Science

The B.S. in Computer Science program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in computer science, including the theoretical foundations, practical skills, and knowledge of computer systems and software.

Program Requirements

The program requires a minimum of 120 credits, which includes:

• 3 credits of CS 100: Roadmap to Computing
• 4 credits of MATH 111: Calculus I
• 3 credits of ENGL 101: English Composition: Introduction to Academic Writing
• 3 credits of PHYS 111: Physics I
• 1 credit of PHYS 111A: Physics I Lab
• 0 credits of FYS SEM: First-Year Student Seminar
• 14 credits of Term Credits in the first semester
• 14 credits of Term Credits in the second semester
• Additional courses in computer science, mathematics, and other fields

Electives

• CS/IS/IT Elective: Two 3-credit CS/IS/IT electives (200-level or above)
• General Elective: Any 3-credit course except a course that is already required for the program or any course covering prerequisite material for first semester courses in the program
• Note: Certain courses cannot count as elective courses, including ENGL 099, PHYS 102, MATH 105, MATH 107, MATH 244, MATH 226, MATH 326, MATH 341, and DS 340

Minimum Grades

• Prerequisite grade requirement for Computer Science majors: B or better in CS 100, C or better in all CS courses that serve as prerequisites in a sequence of courses

Co-op

• A GPA of 2.7 is required to enroll in co-op
• Students may use up to 6 credits of co-op toward their general elective requirements

Curriculum

• The curriculum represents the maximum number of credits per semester for which a student is advised to register
• A full-time credit load is 12 credits
• First-year students are placed in a curriculum that positions them for success, which may result in additional time needed to complete curriculum requirements
• Continuing students should consult with their academic advisor to determine the appropriate credit load.
