Wind Power Management
Program Overview
Introduction to the Wind Power Management Program
The Wind Power Management program is a 12-credit graduate certificate program that focuses on wind plant economics and management. This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge required to manage, coordinate, plan, and direct activities for operating offshore wind plants.
Program Overview
The program will discuss energy law and policy issues that can facilitate a transition from the traditional fossil-fuel model of energy policy to a clean energy economy. Students will learn how to ensure that production stays on schedule and within budget while meeting state and federal regulations. The program will also train students in using data science and machine learning techniques in efforts to carry out predictive maintenance and fault diagnosis towards reducing downtime, optimizing the maintenance schedule, and maximizing the productivity of the wind plant.
Target Audience
Students and professionals interested in a career in the offshore wind industry could enroll in this program to receive competitive training for success in the offshore wind industry. According to various reports, professional education beyond a bachelor's degree is required for many occupations in the offshore wind industry, including engineering manager, chief engineer, and operation manager.
Prerequisites
Students with backgrounds in electrical engineering, physical sciences, or engineering technology are well-suited to enroll in this program to acquire the technical and management knowledge to transition into the booming offshore wind industry.
Course Curriculum
The program will provide an introduction to US offshore wind energy policy, examining the statutory and regulatory frameworks that govern offshore renewable energy leases and permit requirements associated with project development and construction. Students will gain an understanding of the permitting framework for offshore wind projects and the potential legal challenges associated with their development, construction, and finance.
