Introduction to AFROTC
The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is a 4-year program that offers students the opportunity to earn a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the active duty Air or Space Force with a minimum of 4 years of service.
Program Overview
Cadets from Detachment 490 have gone on to serve in a range of career fields, from designing leading-edge computer and space systems to flying the world's most technologically advanced jet aircraft. The program provides a focused training environment that instills the values of integrity, service before self, and excellence, helping to develop well-rounded officers.
Typical Week for a New ROTC Cadet
A typical week for a new ROTC cadet includes:
- Attending two physical training sessions on campus, offered Monday through Thursday
- Attending In-Person AFROTC Leadership Lab (LLAB) and Aerospace Studies 111 (for freshman/1st year cadets) on Fridays
Program Details
- Physical training sessions may be waived for intercollegiate athletes.
- The program offers scholarships for a range of academic programs, open to both high school and college students who excel in academics and display leadership potential.
Career Opportunities
Cadets often participate in numerous activities and organizations that reach out to the local community, strengthening the skills necessary to benefit their careers in the military. Upon completion of the program, cadets can pursue a range of career fields in the Air Force and Space Force.
