Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence

The Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence from NJIT teaches students how to use AI to solve real-world problems and design and deploy AI solutions for large-scale systems and applications. The curriculum balances theoretical concepts and practical knowledge applied to real-life AI systems and processes.

Program Overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) uses computers and technology to achieve the outcomes of human problem-solving and decision-making abilities. It comprises methods to solve easy problems for humans but hard for digital computers, such as Natural Language Understanding, Natural Language Generation, and Image Understanding.

Certificate Requirements

• 6 credits compulsory core courses
• 6 credits elective courses

Recommended Part-Time Credit Schedule

Two courses per semester (6 credits) over two semesters, available in fall, spring, and summer.

Required Courses

Students are required to take two (2) core courses from the following list:

• DS 675: Machine Learning (3 credits)
• DS 677: Deep Learning (3 credits)

Elective Courses

Students are required to take two (2) elective courses from the following list:

• DS 634: Data Mining (3 credits)
• CS 659: Image Processing and Analytics (3 credits)
• DS 669: Reinforcement Learning (3 credits)
• CS 670: Artificial Intelligence (3 credits)
• DS 680: Natural Language Processing (3 credits)
• CS 681: Computer Vision (3 credits)
• DS 789: Trustworthy AI (3 credits)

Students may choose an elective outside the list after approval from their respective advisors.

Admissions

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree and some experience with programming and data analytics. Some experience with programming, equivalent to CS602 (Java), and some experience in data analytics, equivalent to CS482 (Data Mining).

Program Outcomes

Students who receive the AI certification from NJIT will demonstrate their expertise in the following areas:

1. Design and build custom AI models using a high-level, general-purpose programming language (Python) and frameworks such as Tensorflow and PyTorch.
2. Design and develop software in scalable AI software architectures and APIs.
3. Process and analyze various data in different formats, including text, images, audio, videos, and time-series data.
4. Formulate complex problem statements and solve them using specific AI models.
5. Present AI applications and methodologies effectively and clearly.

Tuition and Fees

• Jersey City Cohort Students (non-F1 visa): Tuition, University Fee, and GSA Fee per consecutive semester, regardless of residency, assuming two Jersey City courses (6 credits) at rates:
  • Fall 2024: $7,440
  • Spring 2025: $7,440
  • Summer 2025: $6,091
• Certificates: Total Tuition, University Fee, and GSA Fee Costs, assuming two Jersey City courses (6 credits) over five consecutive semesters at rates:
  • Fall Start: $14,880
