Program Overview
University Program: Kunst- und Medientheorien: Kippfiguren
Program Overview
The program "Kunst- und Medientheorien: Kippfiguren" is offered by the University of Konstanz, Faculty of Literature, Arts, and Media. The program focuses on cultural forms that play with the change of reception and viewing perspectives or readability, also known as "Kippfiguren."
Program Description
Kippfiguren are cultural forms that involve aspects of oscillation, ambiguity, and sudden changes in interpretation - aesthetically, structurally, and/or historically. The program explores different case studies where images or other media forms change in their receptivity. It examines the historical, material, medial, and socio-technical conditions under which cultural forms become "Kippfiguren." The program also discusses practices that produce Kippfiguren, such as images, sounds, or texts that create new perspectives.
Program Objectives
The program aims to understand Kippfiguren as ways of thinking about multiperspectivity, change, and instability of fixed interpretations - thus as eminently political aesthetic forms. It seeks to analyze the fragile nature of understanding and the possibility of understanding in different ways.
