Program Overview
UKZN Graduate Development Programme
The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has launched the Graduate Development Programme as part of its commitment to being an "Employer of Choice for Graduates". The programme aims to identify and recruit capable and driven students and graduates to pursue a career in academia at UKZN.
Programme Overview
The programme is designed to recruit graduates into various disciplines at different levels, with the aim of employing them as full-time UKZN employees. Eligible graduates may be awarded scholarships to further their studies and work for the University. Graduates who do not meet the criteria for the scholarship can pursue their studies to Master's level and apply for Developmental Lecturer positions while pursuing their PhD studies.
Career Paths
The programme offers graduates two career paths:
- Specialists in academia
- Leaders in academia
To be in a leadership position in academia, one must have demonstrated academic excellence by rising through the Specialisation Pathway. The University recognizes that it requires a variety of capabilities across academic disciplines to succeed as an academic institution nationally and globally.
Programme Launch
The programme was launched at the Careers Exhibition in Pietermaritzburg and Durban campuses, where several academics and ambassadors spoke positively about the initiative. The launch will continue in other campuses, providing opportunities for students and graduates to learn more about the programme.
