The course will demonstrate how to undertake best practice to identify explosively contaminated land and will include:
- The theory and principles of explosive contamination, soil sampling, and water sampling.
- Practical experience in water and soil sampling, laboratory sample preparation, extraction, and analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Application of assimilated knowledge through a series of workshops based on real contamination incidents.
- Finding cost-effective solutions to identify explosive contamination.

Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) is a Cranfield School based at the Ministry of Defence establishment on the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire borders. Shrivenham itself lies in the picturesque Vale of the White Horse, close to the M4 motorway, which links London and South Wales.
