This course introduces the basic principles of water treatment, from source abstraction to the removal of impurities and associated flow processes.

- Examine the nature of impurities in waters, their concentrations, and significance
- Explain the basic principles of water treatment processes
- Select appropriate processes depending on the nature of the impurities to be removed
Core Content
- Classification significance and concentration ranges of impurities in water
- Physical methods for removing particulates: clarification, filtration
- Chemical dosing, including precipitation; coagulation and flocculation; disinfection and chemical oxidation
- Examples of flow sheets and unit operations in treatment plants
