Program Overview


Introduction to the Degree in Dentistry

The Degree in Dentistry is a five-year program that qualifies students for the profession of dentist. The program is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competences to practice dentistry independently and without supervision.


Objectives

The fundamental objective of the Curriculum in Dentistry is to train a professional with adequate knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competences to serve society by satisfying its health demands, both in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, ethically, efficiently, and safely.


Competences

The program aims to develop the following competences in students:


  • Professional values, attitudes, and ethical behaviors
  • Scientific foundations of dentistry and acquisition and critical assessment of information
  • Clinical skills: diagnosis, prognosis, and planning of dental treatment
  • Clinical skills: dental therapy
  • Public health and health systems

Minimum Stay Requirements

The maximum duration for completing the degree is eight years for full-time students and ten years for part-time students. Students must pass a minimum of two subjects in the first year, and part-time students must pass at least one subject in their first academic year.


Access and Registration

Access to the official teachings of the Degree in Dentistry requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent and passing the test referred to in article 42 of the Organic Law 6/2001, of Universities. The number of places offered for new admission is 75, including transfer admission places.


Training Itinerary

The program consists of seven modules:


  1. Common Basic Knowledge Module (6 ECTS credits)
  2. Module of Basic Knowledge of Branch and Basic Biomedical Sciences Relevant to Dentistry (57 ECTS credits)
  3. Required Knowledge Module (189 ECTS credits)
  4. External Internship Module (36 ECTS credits)
  5. Academic Recognition of Credits Module (6 ECTS credits)
  6. End of Degree Project Module (6 ECTS credits)

The renewal of accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers, and Degrees (RUCT).


History

The Conference of Deans of the Faculties of Dentistry of Spain, in collaboration with the Ministry of Universities, has agreed to carry out the test to pass the complementary training requirements for the homologation of the title that enables the exercise of the regulated profession of dentist in Spain.
