Program Overview


Master's Degree in Sports Data Analysis

The Master's Degree in Sports Data Analysis is a 60 ECTS credit program that provides students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to develop, implement, and adapt technological solutions for improving data analysis in the sports environment.


Objectives

The main objective of the curriculum is to provide the student with the specific knowledge, skills, and competencies to develop, implement, and adapt technological solutions for improving data analysis in the sports environment.


Learning Outcomes

The program aims to equip students with the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:


  • Knowledge of advanced aspects of languages used by data analysts, such as R and Python
  • Understanding of fundamental principles and techniques for acquiring, organizing, combining, cleansing, and storing data from various sources
  • Understanding of concepts and fundamentals of software development for sports data analysis
  • Ability to classify main tools and platforms of the sports data analysis ecosystem
  • Understanding of principles of data visualization and theories for effectively communicating sports data analysis results
  • Ability to identify specific challenges and issues associated with data management, analysis, and processing in the sports field

Skills

The program aims to equip students with the following skills:


  • Ability to identify and propose solutions to specific problems in sports data management and analysis
  • Ability to apply mathematical tools to develop biomechanical models based on inverse and direct dynamics for motion analysis
  • Ability to develop mathematical models that allow for the evaluation of technical and tactical performance of athletes and sports teams
  • Ability to design and develop innovative technical solutions to optimize athletic performance

Competences

The program aims to equip students with the following competences:


  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams made up of professionals from diverse fields of knowledge related to sports
  • Ability to develop and apply original ideas in the area of sports data analysis
  • Ability to develop the capacity for continuous self-learning in sports data engineering and analysis
  • Ability to write and present technical and scientific documents

Admission and Enrollment

The general requirements for access to University Master's Degrees are:


  1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent
  2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system
  3. Universities will guarantee transparent and accessible information on admission procedures
  4. Universities may exceptionally establish conditional enrollment procedures for access to a University Master's Degree
  5. Universities will regulate admission to Master's Degree courses, establishing specific requirements and, if necessary, training complements

Admission

The Rey Juan Carlos University does not have specific admission regulations, but is governed by article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28. Each degree has its own general access criteria and special access tests. Admission to the University Master's Degrees will be carried out through a selection process.


General Access Criteria

Given the technical and technological nature of the curriculum, the following specific qualifications are considered to facilitate access to the Master's Degree:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science and Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Engineering
  • Technical Engineering in Computer Systems
  • Telecommunications Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related areas
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics
  • Graduates in Sports Sciences: Graduates in Sports Sciences must demonstrate a minimum of 24 months' experience in sports management, athletic performance, and participation in data analysis projects

Conditions or Special Access Tests

If necessary, the student's CV will be assessed, taking into account his/her professional experience, his/her projection in relation to the objectives of the master's degree, and his/her academic record. If the demand for applications exceeds the places offered, admission will be prioritized according to the following criteria:


  • Direct access curriculum: 40%
  • Academic record: 35%
  • Curriculum and professional experience: 25%

Offer of Places

20 seats. If the minimum number of students envisaged is not reached in a course, the University may choose not to open the teaching group.


Training Itinerary

The Master's Teaching Guides are available on the university's website. The External Practices subject is a curricular subject whose main objective is to promote a comprehensive training of the student through the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the master's degree.

The internships represent a decisive opportunity for the personal development and professional future of the students.


Mobility Programs

University Master's degrees, due to their duration and characteristics, in general do not specifically contemplate the mobility of their students. However, the Rey Juan Carlos University has different mobility programs for both students and University workers.


Quality Guarantee

The university has a quality assurance system in place to ensure the quality of the program. The system includes a manual of the internal quality assurance system, composition of the commission, results report, general information collection plan, survey results, improvement actions, and renewal of accreditation.

General Information Collection Plan

The university has a general information collection plan in place to collect data on the program. The plan includes surveys of students, teachers, and employers.

The university takes improvement actions based on the results of the surveys and other data collected. The actions are aimed at improving the quality of the program and the student experience.


Renewal of Accreditation

The renewal of accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit, and final assessment.
