Program Overview

Introduction to the Master's Degree in Aerospace Design, Manufacturing, and Maintenance Engineering

The Master's Degree in Aerospace Design, Manufacturing, and Maintenance Engineering is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with extensive and rigorous training in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of aircraft. This program is tailored for engineers seeking to enhance their knowledge in aeronautical design, manufacturing, and maintenance, with a focus on practical application and industry relevance.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this master's degree are to provide theoretical and practical training in the various disciplines involved in aircraft design, configuration, assembly, production, and maintenance. Emphasis is placed on configuration and assembly production processes, composite materials, new technologies, and advanced materials applicable in the factory of the future.

Competences

Upon completion of the program, students will acquire a set of general and specific competencies, including:

  • Ability to search for and interpret specific information related to the different subjects of the master's degree.
  • Ability to propose and develop reports, interpret technical documents, and work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Resource management, flexibility, critical reasoning, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader contexts related to their area of study.
  • Capacity for self-directed learning and the ability to establish relevant interrelationships between different disciplines.

Programme Structure

The program is structured into several modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of aerospace design, manufacturing, and maintenance:

  • MODULE A: Design of Manned and Unmanned Aircraft - Covers general design of airplanes and unmanned aerial systems (UASs), specific design of structures and system installations, configuration management, and essays.
  • MODULE B: Aircraft Systems Engineering and Aeronautical Quality - Includes fluid dynamic systems, landing gear systems, electrical systems, utilities, emergencies, and aeronautical quality.
  • MODULE C: Manufacturing Engineering in Composite and Metallic Materials - Focuses on manufacturing technologies, concurrent engineering, manufacturing equipment, tooling, thermoplastics, integration of structures, repairs, mechanized processes, and surface treatments.
  • MODULE D: Process Engineering and Configuration - Covers program management, cost management, lean manufacturing, routes/SOI product structure, logistics management, and tool management.
  • MODULE E: Assembly Production Engineering - Basic processes, FAL assemblies/FAL integration, MCA & FAL tooling, equipped with systems, automation, and hall.
  • MODULE F: New Technologies and Advanced Materials - Additive manufacturing, nanotechnology, nanomaterials, multifunctional materials, and non-conventional composite materials.
  • MODULE G: Aeronautical Maintenance. Planes and Helicopters - Introduction to maintenance, maintenance regulation, organization, maintenance documentation, and maintenance program.
  • MODULE H: Factory of the Future - Extreme agility, general framework of transformation 4.0, big data and management control, manufacturing intelligence, machine learning, human 4.0, logistics 4.0, and cybersecurity.
  • MODULE I: Practices - Company internships.
  • MODULE J: Final Master's Project - Completion, presentation, and defense of an original exercise.

Recipients and Access Requirements

To access the program, applicants must have a degree in engineering, technical engineering, or a related field. The program also values work experience in the aeronautical sector. Selection criteria include the degree (30%), academic record (30%), previous experience (20%), and an interview (20%).

Academic Management and Faculty

The program is directed by Luis Cadarso and Raul de Celis, with coordination by Angel Hinojosa. The quality commission includes representatives from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and Airbus.

Quality Guarantee

The program adheres to the internal quality assurance system of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, ensuring continuous improvement and quality education.

Duration and Development

The program is face-to-face and face-to-face, with 60 ECTS credits, 600 contact hours, and is delivered at the Hangar Laboratory VI of the Fuenlabrada Campus of the URJC. It utilizes a virtual classroom and Microsoft Teams, with classes from 17:00 to 21:00.
