Introduction to the Specialist in Chemical Substances in a Global Health Context
The Specialist in Chemical Substances in a Global Health Context is a comprehensive program designed to train experts in the field of chemical substances, their toxicity, and impact on ecosystems and human health. This program is organized by the RiSAMA research group, in collaboration with professors from various universities and research centers.
Objectives
The main objectives of this program are to:
- Train experts in knowing which chemical substances are in the spotlight of administrations, the scientific community, and society
- Provide knowledge on the toxicology of these substances, prediction of their behavior, types of contaminants, and effects at the cellular and molecular level
- Familiarize students with methodologies and main studies on environmental and health risk assessment, reaching its legislation
- Offer a module on environmental health, addressing the main problems of chemical, physical, and biological contaminants on animal and human health in a Global Health context
Program Structure
The program consists of several subjects, including:
- Toxicology, Environmental Toxicology, Ecotoxicology
- Environmental pollutants and effects on health, environment, and at the molecular level
- Alternatives to animal experimentation
- Risk assessment
- Health risk assessment
- Regulatory toxicology
- Environmental health
Recipients
This program is aimed at students with a previous university degree, particularly those interested in working in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics sectors. A maximum of 50 students will be admitted.
Admission Criteria
Admission criteria include:
- Knowledge of English at B2 level accredited (15%)
- Other different degrees (10%)
- Demonstrable work experience in the chemical or related sector (70%)
- Academic record (5%)
Academic Management and Faculty
The program is directed by Yolanda Valcárcel and Yolanda Segura, with a faculty comprising professors from various universities and research centers, including the University of Alcalá de Henares, the University of Extremadura, and the National Center for Environmental Health.
Duration and Development
The program is offered online, with 50 credits, and includes remote sessions with tutors. It starts on October 2, 2025, and finishes on January 31, 2026.
Reservation of Place and Enrollment
The pre-registration period is from March 4, 2025, to September 25, 2025. The enrollment deadline is from September 26 to October 2, 2025. The title price is 2000 euros.
