Overview

The Credit & Lending course is a short course offered by Bangor University, designed for mid-career professionals working in the financial industry or regulation. Learning Methods

This module is delivered through distance learning on a part-time basis, allowing students to study at their own pace. A combination of interactive classes and recorded lectures are provided throughout the 6-month semester, offering a good work-life balance. The virtual learning environment used is Blackboard, where each module has a bespoke area with all study resources, including study guides, e-textbooks, and access to the online library.

Means of Assessment

The module is assessed by means of an individual assignment (40%) and an examination (60%).

The course covers several units, each focusing on different aspects of credit and lending:

• Unit 1: Introduces credit and lending, explaining the main themes and the structure of the module. It provides an overview of credit risk management and its role in the modern financial services industry.
• Unit 2: Covers retail credit-small business lending, introducing tools and techniques to assist the lender in evaluating credit risk. It also explores large company analysis and valuation, stock market performance indicators, and the use of financial models to predict corporate distress.
• Unit 3: Examines specialized lending topics, including structured finance, project finance, object finance, and how financial engineering techniques can reduce the cost of capital in complex financing projects.
