Your Route to a Masters in Psychology

Bangor University International College (BUIC) offers you an alternative route to a masters in Psychology at Bangor University. The programme provides either one term or two terms of preparation for entry into a 1-year master's degree in Psychology at Bangor University.

Modules Include:

• Research Methods (Psychology)
  • During this module students will learn about deploying the scientific method in planning, undertaking and interpreting research within Psychology.
• Scientific Communication
  • During this module students will learn about the scientific method and the importance, within a scientific context, of conveying information in a clear and effective manner with due regard to the style, language, format and conventions appropriate to scientific discourse.
• Personality and Individual Differences (2 term only)
  • This module addresses key topics within the field of personality, intelligence and individual differences. The module is split into two parts: intelligence and personality and each will be assessed separately. The areas covered involve historic and current perspectives on personality, including psychoanalysis, humanistic and trait approaches. Individual differences and intelligence will be explored including intelligence testing, emotional intelligence and heritability of intelligence.
• Concepts in Psychology (2 term only)
  • The emphasis of this module will be on providing students with a conceptual and historical understanding of psychology and how it has developed into the academic discipline that it is today. The focus of the course will be on theoretical understandings of psychology – how psychology as a science pursues discovery of new things through experimentation and scientific endeavour. This course will focus on how these findings are understood and interpreted using classic and contemporary theories.
• Cognitive Neuropsychology (2 term only)
  • This module aims to help students understand the principles of biological psychology. The module covers the brain's anatomy, how it influences behaviour, and the different mental functions the brain is responsible for. The module also explores the various elements of cognitive psychology, such as memory and language acquisition and how injuries or neurological disorders can affect the brain.
• Research Statistics (Psychology)
  • This module aims to familiarise students with the statistical methods utilized in research activities. This will enable them to gain expertise in statistical software and packages, which will aid in data analysis. In addition, students will learn how to effectively interpret, visualize, and communicate their findings.
