Introduction to the BS to MD Program

The BS to MD Program is a comprehensive undergraduate program designed to prepare students for a career in medicine. The program is offered in partnership with the UCSF School of Medicine and UCSF Fresno.

The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the sciences, as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in medical school. The program includes a range of courses and experiences, including:


  • Eligible major requirements
  • Med Ed core course requirements and sequence
  • Introduction to Medical Learning (IML) undergraduate education courses
  • Introduction to Medical Learning (IML) Year 1 (USTU-90)
  • Introduction to Medical Learning (IML) Year 2

SJV PRIME+ Requirements for Acceptance to UCSF School of Medicine (SOM)

To be eligible for acceptance to the UCSF School of Medicine, students must meet the following requirements:


  1. Graduate from UC Merced with an approved major within 4 academic years.
  2. Successfully complete the Med Ed core course requirements.
  3. Achieve a BCPM and cumulative minimum overall GPA of 3.6 by the end of year 3.
  4. Meet UC Merced's residency requirement.
  5. Uphold standards outlined in the Professionalism Policy.
  6. Complete community engagement requirements.
  7. Complete the Baccalaureate Research Experience (BRE) requirement.
  8. Complete the SJV PRIME+ procedures for advancement to UCSF SOM by June 30th following the third year.
