Program Overview
Engineering Management and Systems Engineering
The Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) department at Missouri S&T has become one of the founding departments of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development.
Department Overview
The department continues to progress, with a strong focus on teaching, research, and service. The online master's in engineering management degree program has been ranked third in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, tied with Duke University. This ranking is a testament to the quality and success of the program.
Program Details
- The engineering management program began conferring degrees in 1968 and is the first of its kind in the nation.
- The department has opened an active learning classroom, thanks to the generosity of Kevin and Kelly Fritzmeyer, which is improving the way faculty interact with students and teach critical topics.
- The program combines engineering and management, allowing students to work in various industries and technological areas without feeling limited by their degree.
Research and Grants
- Dr. Casey Canfield, an assistant professor, is leading an awarded research grant from the Public Interest Technology University Network to increase cross-disciplinary interactions among government, industry, and social impact organizations.
- The grant will help the Kummer College realize its economic development and community engagement goals.
Student and Alumni Success
- Sophia Rowland, a graduate of the program, is working at Boeing and promotes engineering as a major and career to high school students.
- Dawson Jeffers, a current undergraduate student, is discovering the benefits of combining engineering and management, allowing him to obtain the skills necessary to continue being a technical entrepreneur.
- Kathy Walker, an alumnus, is giving back to the university by sharing lessons learned throughout her career with students and serving as a member of the EMSE Academy of Engineering Management and the Missouri S&T Board of Trustees.
Academy of Engineering Management
- The Academy provides a mentoring program to all EMSE students and has inducted new members to help mentor and support EMSE students and programs.
- The academy includes members such as Julia Hilton, James Koch, Tom Mertens, Bryan Niehaus, Sondra Rotty, and Katie Voss.
