Certificate of Professional Sales

The Certificate of Professional Sales (CPS) is a program designed for students seeking employment as sales professionals or interested in learning sales skills. The certificate is a clear indication of a student's commitment to enhancing their value to potential employers and gives students a competitive advantage in the sales career field.


Requirements

To earn the CPS, students must complete the following requirements:


  • Coursework: A total of 40 points required, including:
    • MKTG 315: Professional Selling (20 points)
    • Select two of the following elective courses (10 points each):
      • MKTG 351: Principles of Marketing
      • MKTG 353: Marketing Information Technology
      • MKTG 415: Managing the Sales Force
      • MKTG 442: Sales in Distribution of Consumer Products
      • MKTG 495: Sales Internship
      • MKTG 499: Independent Study
  • Required Participation: 30 points for completing all the requirements, including:
    1. Attend two meetings of Professional Sales Organizations
    2. Sales Fundamentals Workshop (offered in the Spring semester only)
    3. Sales Career Academy (offered in the Fall semester only)
    4. Attend at least one of the Sales Career Fairs (offered each semester)
    5. Compete in one of the following competitions: Titan Sales Competition (Fall) or Sales Games (Spring)
  • Additional Participation: A total of 30 points required, including:
    1. Sales Internship or Job (for at least one semester, cannot repeat for extra points) - 20 points
    2. Serve as an Executive Officer of a Business College Professional Student Organization (one year minimum, cannot duplicate) or Active Member of a Business College Professional Student Organization - 10 points
    3. Shadow a Salesperson or Sales Manager for a Day (must complete form from SLC office, cannot duplicate) - 10 points
    4. Interact with a Sales Mentor (mentorship must last a semester, cannot duplicate) - 10 points
    5. Attend a Corporate Tour (cannot repeat for extra points) - 10 points
    6. Compete in Additional Collegiate Sales Competition (up to two additional competitions will count) - 10 points
