Program Overview
Introduction to the Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie (BUT) in Génie Biologique
The Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie (BUT) in Génie Biologique is a three-year undergraduate program that trains professionals in various sectors such as the agro-food industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, biotechnology, collective catering, and animal or plant production.
Program Description
The BUT in Génie Biologique offers two specializations:
- Agronomie: Students study subjects such as physics and chemistry, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology and immunology, animal and plant biology, biotechnology, ecology, genetics, industrial physics, automation and electronics, pedology, agronomic engineering, planning, statistics, agricultural economics, and legislation.
- Sciences de l'aliment et biotechnologie: Students study subjects such as biochemistry, general biology and physiology, cellular biology, microbiology, genetics, bioproduction, biotechnology, manufacturing processes, industrial physics, automation and electronics, food quality and hygiene, and legislation.
General Subjects
In addition to the specialized subjects, students also study general subjects such as:
- Expression and communication
- English (LV1)
- Mathematics
- Computer science
- Management
- Statistics
- Tutoring project
- Personal and professional student project
Volume of Work and Internships
The total weekly workload for each option is around 32 hours. The program includes several internship periods: 8 to 12 weeks over the first four semesters and 12 to 16 weeks in the final year.
Admission Requirements
- Prerequisites: Baccalauréat or equivalent (Diplôme d'Accès aux Etudes Universitaires or French or foreign diploma admitted in exemption).
- Application Modalities: Applications must be submitted through the Parcoursup website.
- Selection Procedure: Admission is decided after a selection procedure and based on the institution's defined admission capacities.
Career Prospects
Graduates in Génie Biologique have a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills, enabling them to access intermediate professions (as defined by INSEE) and find employment in various sectors related to their chosen option. They can work in production, analysis and control, consulting and services, and research and development.
Capacities and Specializations
- Global Admission Capacity for 2026: 84 (Auch site), with 56 places for the Agronomie specialization and 28 places for the Sciences de l'aliment et biotechnologie specialization.
- The global admission capacity refers to the total number of places available for the program, including all its specializations and student categories (new students, repeating students, continuing education students, and international students via Etudes en France).
Program Structure
- Duration: 3 years
- Level of Graduation: Bac + 3 (Level 6)
