Introduction to the Geography Program

The geography program aims to cultivate professional students who are immersed in the research and teaching of geography science. The program is designed to meet the needs of social construction, and its goal is to produce students who are well-developed in morality, intellect, physique, and beauty, and who possess the spirit of innovation and the ability to practice.

The Goal

The program aims to cultivate students who can carry out geographical teaching and research in higher and secondary schools, and who can work in relative departments, such as project departments and management departments.


The Requirement

The program requires students to learn the basic theory, basic knowledge, and basic skills of geography science, and to accept the training of scientific ways of thinking and scientific experiments in geographically fundamental theory. Students must also have the education theory course and experience practice segments in order to form good science and teacher quality.


The concrete requirements are:


  • You are trained well in thinking and experiments of geography science, and you should master relevant subjects' basic knowledge, method, and skill.
    • You should have the humanity and scientific quality.
    • You must master totally the modern geography science' basic theory, knowledge, and skill.
  • You should master the rule of education and apply pedagogic and psychological theories to practice preliminarily.
    • You must possess teacher's quality and have the ability to work in geography.
  • You should know the recent development of geography science and the recent research of geography education.
    • You'd better have the ability to study on your own, and you can obtain the first-hand data and geographic information by the way of outdoor investigation, remote sensing image interpretation, and laboratory operation.
    • You also need the ability to combine your professional knowledge with the social reality and other subjects' knowledge.
  • You must have a good master of expression, including painting, sketching, tabulating, taking photographs, etc.
    • At least, you can master a kind of foreign language in order to communicate, exchange ideas, and cooperate with other countries according to geographical research and application in the view of globalization.
  • You should have the ability to take advantage of modern educational technology for implementing teaching.
    • You should master computeracy and skill of geo-information system, which you can apply to relative research.
