Program Overview
Art Management Study Programme
The Art Management study programme is designed for creative and strategic minds who wish to deepen their knowledge of arts organisation management, understand contemporary cultural processes, and create new arts initiatives. This programme is practice-oriented, allowing students to collaborate with experienced professionals, including theatre managers, gallery and museum directors, arts marketing experts, and creative industry practitioners.
Programme Description
The programme focuses on the concept of art as a social and economic phenomenon, combining the principles of art management and marketing into a single whole. Renowned art management and marketing experts share their experience with students, providing a comprehensive understanding of the field. The study programme is oriented towards practical application, enabling students to develop their skills in managing arts organisations, creating and implementing art projects, and marketing and audience development.
Programme Structure
The first semester covers subjects such as Strategic Management in Arts Organisations, Research Methods in Arts Management, and Contemporary Art and Society. Optional courses include Arts Policy, Arts Economics and Finance, Management of Arts Projects, or Collaboration of Arts Organisations. The second semester consists of Creative Industries, Data Analytics for Arts Organisations, Arts Marketing and Audience Development, and optional subjects such as Arts Communication, Arts Education, Visual Arts Management, or Performing Arts Management. The Master's thesis is written in the third semester.
Admission Requirements
- Entry qualification: Undergraduate diploma (or higher)
- Applicants must have completed studies in one of the following areas: Business, Public Management; Economics, Sociology, Communication; Linguistics, Classical Studies, Philology by Language, Translation, Regional Studies, History, Archaeology, Philosophy, Heritage Studies, Cultural Studies, or Art Studies; Arts.
- For those applicants without an undergraduate degree in the fields listed above, at least 15 ECTS credits in Marketing and/or Management Sciences must have been completed during their undergraduate studies.
- Applicants with an overall grade average of at least 60% are eligible for admission.
- The Admission Committee of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty may invite the candidate to a remote interview.
- Entry qualification documents are accepted in English or Lithuanian.
Language Requirements
- English language proficiency is required.
- The following language certificates are accepted: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 81+, Cambridge English Exam 176+, Pearson PTE Academic 59+, LanguageCert IESOL B2, Duolingo English Test 120+, Password Skills Plus 6.5+, or another language proficiency certificate equivalent to B2 CEFR.
Learning Outcomes
- Think creatively, generate ideas, and solve complex problems in the management and marketing of arts organisations.
- Strategically plan and manage the activities of arts organisations, applying contemporary management, research, and data analytics methods.
- Create and implement art projects and initiatives that bring art and business together, while responsibly planning finances and risks.
- Develop and implement marketing and audience development strategies for arts organisations, strengthening their visibility and impact on society.
- Work in teams, take on the role of a responsible leader, and ground decisions in ethical principles.
- Analyse creative industries, art policy, and contemporary art processes, critically evaluate changes, and initiate new directions.
Financing
- Annual tuition fee for a state non-funded place: 5,500 EUR.
- Application fee: 100 EUR per application.
Career Prospects
After completing this study programme, graduates will be able to work as project, marketing, communication, human resources, and audience development managers or coordinators for arts and cultural organisations. They will also be able to work as cultural programme coordinators in municipalities, ministries, business and creative industry companies, or consulting organisations. If they wish to continue their academic career, they can choose doctoral studies in management. Potential career paths include:
