Dentistry Programme

The Dentistry programme is aimed at educating dentists, a state-regulated profession. It is designed in accordance with the general requirements for the integrated studies set out in the Republic of Lithuania's valid legal documents, and is also fully consistent with the European Directive 2005/36/EC requirements. The programme encompasses the compulsory subjects delivered through both theoretical and practical teaching. Graduates are qualified to work in all areas of clinical dentistry, collaborate with other health professionals, and pursue further specialization through postgraduate studies.

Programme Plan

Students begin with subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, gradually moving toward pre-clinical practice. As the programme advances, they gain extensive hands-on experience in diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive dental procedures under professional supervision. Clinical practice increases each year, culminating in comprehensive patient care during the final semesters. The curriculum is structured to meet EU standards, ensuring that graduates are fully prepared for independent dental practice or further specialization through postgraduate studies.

Requirements for Admission

• The applicant must take an entrance examination. The examination is conducted online on the following dates:
  • January 22
  • February 26
  • March 19
  • April 16
  • May 14
  • June 18
  • July 16
• IMPORTANT! Non-EU citizens must take the entrance exam no later than May 14.
• An applicant must register for the examination and choose a suitable date.
• Entrance examination fee: 200 EUR. IMPORTANT! Entrance examination fee must be paid at least 48h prior to the examination time and is not refundable!
• If the applicant has passed the following examinations no earlier than during the 2nd year before admission, the applicant may apply without taking the entrance examination, but must submit the results of one of the following tests (the results of tests remain valid for 2 years).
  • MCAT. Minimum score: 500+
  • BMAT. Minimum score: section 1 and 2 – score 5, section 3 – score 3B+
  • IMAT. Minimum score: 50+
  • NEET. Minimum score 650+
• If the applicant has one of the following school qualifications, he/she may apply without taking the entrance examination:
  • IB Diploma "International Baccalaureate": Biology 5 (H level) and Chemistry 5 (H level)
  • A level certificate "A levels": Biology A and Chemistry A
  • German certificate "Abitur": Biology 12 points or 1-2 and Chemistry 12 points or 1-2
  • Finish certificate "Ylioppilastutkintotodistus": Biology Eximia cum laude approbatur (E, 6) and Chemistry Biology Eximia cum laude approbatur (E, 6)
  • Swedish certificate "Examensbevis": Biology B and Chemistry B (level 2)
  • Spanish certificate "Titulo de Bachiller" accompanied by "Selectividad": Biology 9 and Chemistry 9
  • French certificate "Baccalaureat": Biology 15 and Chemistry 15
• Applicants applying via one of the agencies cooperating with VU: MediStart, StudiMed, Med-Prep Europe, Makeit School Med-Prep are not required to take an entrance examination. These applicants must have passed the subjects of Biology or Chemistry/Physics at school.
• Applicants must have completed the Biology subject at school. The Natural Sciences subject is considered to be equivalent to the Biology subject. The entrance examination is mandatory.
• If the applicant has graduated in Biomedicine/Life Sciences/Health Sciences and has a diploma, he/she may have completed either the Biology or Chemistry/Physics subject at school. However, it is mandatory to provide documents about the education acquired in the field of Biomedicine/Life Sciences/Health Sciences. In such a case, MF will assess whether the applicant must additionally pass the entrance examination.
• If the applicant has completed Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics subjects, it shall be considered to be an advantage.
• Due to the differences in the education systems of different countries, the University reserves the right to individually assess the suitability of an applicant for the study programme if he/she does not meet all of the listed criteria.

• The following language certificates are accepted for study programmes taught in English: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 81+, Cambridge English Exam 176+, Pearson PTE Academic 59+, LanguageCert IESOL B2, Duolingo English Test 120+, Password Skills Plus 6.5+ or another language proficiency certificate equivalent to B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
• If your first language is English and/or if you have a university degree in English, you will be exempt from providing an English language test score.

Learning Outcomes

• Upon graduation, you will be able to demonstrate professional ethics, legal awareness, and clinical responsibility — understanding contemporary dentistry standards and the ethical, social, and legal obligations of a dentist.
• You will have skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, respecting cultural and social differences, and handle psychological and social aspects of dental care.
• You will possess the skills needed for diagnosing, planning and delivering a broad range of dental treatments, as well as preventive care.
• You will be prepared to work in multidisciplinary teams and to do further scientific/research work.

Financing

• Annual tuition fee for a state non-funded place: 15 000 EUR

Tuition Fee

• Students who are citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area countries and of other foreign countries, admitted to non-state-funded places in the first year of first-cycle and second-cycle studies through the University's foreign student application system, must pay the annual tuition fee within 15 calendar days from the date of the offer to study.

Application Fee

• The application fee is €100 per application. Each applicant can choose up to three programmes within one application.
• Online applications will only be processed once the application fee has been paid.
• Please note that the application fee is non-refundable. Make sure you read the admission requirements and deadlines carefully before submitting your application, as the fee cannot be refunded if you are found to be ineligible or miss a deadline.

Career Prospects

After graduating from this study programme, you will be capable of working as a dentist in private or public clinics, providing diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic dental care. You may choose to continue your studies through residency and specialize in areas such as orthodontics, oral surgery, or prosthodontics. Career opportunities also include roles in dental product and medical equipment companies. You can be awarded access to the third cycle of (residency) studies. Also, there are opportunities to pursue research or academic work in universities or clinical research institutions. With experience, dentists can also establish and manage their own dental practices.
