Overview

Doctoral studies in the field of Law at Vilnius University are designed for researchers who can independently conduct scientific research and solve scientific problems. The studies last for 4 years (full-time) or 6 years (part-time) and include targeted scientific research and preparation of a scientific work.

Admission Requirements

• The admission contest is open to individuals with a Master's degree in Law or an equivalent university education in Law.
• Applicants must submit a research project to the Doctoral Committee of the Law Faculty and participate in a motivational interview with the admission committee.
• The research project should be prepared on one of the topics listed in the dissertation topics of the Law science field.
• The project should include a description of the relevance of the topic, the current level of research on the problem, the goals and objectives of the future work, a discussion of research methods, a general overview of the literature on the dissertation topic, and a planned research schedule.

Research Project and Evaluation

• The research project should be up to 10 pages long.
• The project is evaluated based on the following criteria: relevance of the topic, level of research on the problem, goals and objectives of the future work, research methods, literature overview, and research schedule.
• Motivational interviews with the admission committee are held to evaluate the projects and the applicants' presentation skills.

Financing Options

• Studies are financed by the State Budget of the Republic of Lithuania. Doctoral students who study in state-financed study places do not pay for their studies and receive a monthly scholarship.
• Studies can also be financed by the doctoral student themselves. In this case, the student pays an annual tuition fee.
