Program Overview

Automotive Program

The Automotive program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is widely considered the premier Automotive Technology program in the nation. It prepares students for careers in the forefront of the automotive industry, focusing on a thorough understanding of technology and hands-on, high-level diagnostics, combined with industry-specific business and management knowledge and its application.

Bachelor's Degree

The Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Technology prepares students for careers in any area of the automotive industry, from managing a corporation's fleet of cars to running a high-tech garage, and from sales and marketing to new technology. The program develops students into highly skilled and capable industry leaders, with nearly all students accepting full-time career offers even before they graduate.

Minor in Automotive

A minor in automotive, truck, and equipment management is also offered, providing a focused curriculum to prepare students seeking to enter the fields of management, marketing, planning, and support operations with major industry manufacturers, parts and component suppliers, service and parts suppliers, or government agencies.

Facilities

The SIU Transportation Education Center (TEC) is a 186,000 square-foot LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certified facility that houses the university's Automotive and Aviation programs. A separate 32,000 square-foot building houses automotive components, materials, and approximately half of the school's 120 vehicles.
