Introduction to Glassblowing

About

This eight-week studio course introduces the fundamental techniques of glassblowing and is designed for curious beginners, makers, and anyone seeking a creative, hands-on experience. No prior art background is required. Participants will learn traditional methods as a foundation for exploring glass both as a physical material and as an expressive artistic medium. All tools and materials are provided; participants must bring their own safety glasses.

• Gain familiarity with the operation and etiquette of a professional glass studio
• Cultivate a deeper appreciation of glass as an artistic and sculptural material

• Location: Pulliam Hall, Industrial Wing, Room 112
• Cost: $550 (includes materials and instruction)
• Class Size: Minimum 4 participants / Maximum 6 participants

Studio Health and Safety Policy

The safety of all participants is the top priority. The hotshop is an active industrial environment with heat, noise, and standing. Safety procedures will be reviewed at the start of the course, and protective gear will be provided as needed. If participants have questions regarding any accessibility needs, they should contact the university in advance. While in the hotshop, all participants must wear safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, and natural-fiber clothing (no polyester, nylon, or rayon). Long hair must be tied back at all times. Anyone without proper attire will not be permitted to work in the glass studio and will be marked absent for that session. Unsafe behavior or disregard for instructions will result in immediate dismissal from the studio. Participants are not permitted to work in the studio outside of scheduled class hours.

Cancellation Policy

All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. The registration fee, minus a $20 cancellation fee, will be refunded if the participant cancels by the week before the class begins. Any time after that date, no refunds will be issued. Refunds are not given to participants who voluntarily drop out of the class.
