Southern Illinois University Program Details

The Aviation Flight program at SIU Carbondale offers a week-long aviation camp designed to give interested high school students an opportunity to experience first-hand the thrill of flight.

Program Description

Summer Wings offers those attending the chance to explore a career as a pilot by providing ground and flight training similar to the training that SIU flight students undergo. Participants will attend ground school classes, fly university flight training devices and aircraft (weather permitting), and enjoy evening activities on campus.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must be completing their freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school this year to qualify. The camp is limited to 8 students.

Program Details

• Date: Summer Wings I - June 22-27, 2025, Summer Wings II - July 6-11, 2025
• Time: 8 a.m. 6 p.m. M-F
• Location: Southern Illinois Carbondale Airport with resident lodging on the SIU Carbondale campus.

Fees

• Resident Camper: $1,875
• Commuter Camper: $1,600

Registration

• Registration requires full payment.
• A waitlist is available for full sessions.

Program Requirements

• The Camp Release Form is required for camp participation and must be received in the office prior to camp beginning.

Cancellation Policy

• All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing.
• The camp cost, less the $200 non-refundable deposit, will be refunded if cancelled by May 16, 2025.
• At any time after that date, refunds (less the $200 non-refundable deposit) are made for medical reasons only.
• Refunds are not given to campers who voluntarily leave camp or who are sent home for disciplinary reasons.
• The University reserves the right to cancel any program. In the event of cancellation, only those pre-registered will be notified.
