Physical Therapist Assistant Program

The Physical Therapist Assistant program is a direct-entry program, and there are no prerequisites required prior to submitting an application.

Competitive Admission Process

The review process begins as soon as the application process begins in the fall semester and continues on a rolling basis until 30 students are accepted.

Admission Criteria

For students with less than 26 credit hours at the time of application, points are assigned based on high school GPA with consideration of any standardized test score available. For transfer students (>26 credit hours), points are assigned based on transfer GPA at the time of application.

Letters of Recommendation

Three references are required, including:

• Science Teacher
• General Teacher
• Character reference Points are assigned based on the quality of the recommendation given. References are welcome to supplement the provided form with an additional letter. Applicants who have been out of school for an extended period at the time of application may contact the Program Director to discuss substitution of alternate references for teacher references.

Additional Requirements for Application Submission

Current immunization records verifying vaccination or immunity through a titer of:

• Hepatitis B
• MMR
• Varicella (record of disease is NOT sufficient for Varicella) A negative 2-step TB, Quantiferon or chest X-Ray is also required.

Quality of Essay Responses

Essay responses are evaluated based on the quality (information, grammar, spelling, professionalism) of the responses provided.

Additional Points

Additional points are given for:

• Prior completion of KIN320, 321, AH 241 (or transfer equivalent), and/or PTH 207 with a final grade of A or B
• Work experience or volunteering (not observation only) in a healthcare field
• Strong science grades
• A significant recent increase in GPA (for applicants that may have been out of school for a significant period of time)
