Motorcycle Rider Program Central Region

The program provides training and education for motorcycle riders, with a focus on safety and skill development.


Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the program, a student must:


  • be a current Illinois resident, with a permanent or present address
  • have a valid driver's license with proper classification for the motorcycle to be used during the course
  • ensure the motorcycle passes a pre-ride safety inspection
  • be at least 16 years old (students aged 16 or 17 must also have a parent or legal guardian present at the first class meeting)

Items Required for the Advanced Rider Course

Participants must provide:


  • a street-legal motorcycle, either their own or a loaner with the owner's written permission
  • current motorcycle registration (registration card)
  • proof of insurance
  • a valid motorcycle license, with proper classification for the motorcycle to be used during the course
  • protective clothing, including:
    • a DOT-approved helmet
    • sturdy over-the-ankle footwear (not cloth or canvas)
    • long pants made of denim or other heavy material
    • full-fingered gloves made of leather or cloth
    • a long-sleeved jacket or shirt
    • eye protection, such as sunglasses, glasses, or a face shield
