Apparel Design & Merchandising Program

The Apparel Design & Merchandising Program at San Francisco State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree designed to ignite passion for fashion and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the dynamic world of apparel design and merchandising.

Program Concentrations

The program offers two concentrations:

• Design: explores human behavior, social problems, and environmental concerns, interpreting influences and outcomes for the globally interdependent fashion industry.
• Merchandising: covers everything from fashion illustration and textile science to retail management and sustainable practices.

The program offers two concentrations with specific degree requirements:

Concentration in Design: Degree Requirements

Concentration in Merchandising: Degree Requirements

Change of Major to B.S. in Apparel Design & Merchandising (ADM)

Current students can submit a change of major request online by following these steps:

1. Log in to SF State Gateway/MySFSU.
2. Click the Schedule / Classes link and then Student Center.
3. Under the other academics pull-down section, select Change Major.
4. Click the Next button.
5. Requested College - Click 38 CHSS.
6. Requested Major Click Either
   • Apparel Des/Merch: Design - B.S.
   • Apparel Des/Merch: Merch B.S.
7. Click Submit Button.
8. Receive a welcome email from the department with the email address of the new major advisor.
9. Send the advisor an email to set up a time to discuss the academic advising plan.
10. After the meeting, be added to the ADM major.
11. Receive a confirmation of the request to the SF State email account.
