Course Description
The course Advanced Joinery (TBBY1019) is based on achieved learning outcomes in TBBY1017 Introduction to Carpentry, and delves deeper into the carpentry subject through selected examples of topics introduced in TBBY1017. The course covers topics such as maintenance, repair, or restoration and surface treatment of doors, windows, stairs, filling panels, moldings, etc., or production and maintenance of special tools necessary for the production and restoration of the above-mentioned building parts.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
Candidates will have specialized knowledge of a limited area in the traditional carpentry profession and know practical, antiquarian restoration work in the carpentry profession.
Skills
Candidates will be able to use specialized knowledge in a limited area in the traditional carpentry profession with regard to materials, methods, procedures, and tools for the manufacture of new building parts or for the repair or restoration of old. They will also be able to identify and describe damage to carpentry building parts as a starting point for measures in restoration work.
General Competence
Candidates will be able to document work in the traditional carpentry profession in relation to material use, techniques, and procedures.
Learning Methods and Activities
Lectures
The course includes lectures, exercises such as group work or individual exercises, field work, and homework.
Mandatory Activities
Mandatory participation in gatherings and mandatory practical assignments are required.
Evaluation
Compulsory Assignments
Two compulsory assignments, in the form of practical work pieces, must be assessed and are the basis for passing or failing the course. In the event of absence, assignments must be taken by a new deadline by agreement with the course coordinator.

Specific Conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required: Traditional Building Craft (FTTRADBYGG).
Recommended Previous Knowledge
TBBY1017 Introduction to Carpentry is recommended.
Required Previous Knowledge
No mandatory prerequisites are required.
Course Materials
Lectures are published, and materials and tools are made available to the student. Objects produced by the student as part of exercises or homework belong to the institution unless otherwise specifically agreed with the student.
Credit Reductions
The course has academic overlap with TBBY3101, and if taken, a credit reduction will be applied to the course with the lowest grade. If the grades are the same, the reduction will be applied to the course completed most recently.
