Program Overview


Course Overview

The course Analytical Chemistry, with the code IMAK2004, is an intermediate-level course offered at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).   • Spectroscopy: electromagnetic radiation, absorption, and emission, including UV-VIS spectroscopy, molecular fluorescence spectroscopy, atom absorption spectrometry (AAS), and mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Learning Outcome

Upon completing the course, the candidate is expected to be able to:


  • Describe the principles of basic analytical methods and perform calculations related to quantitative analysis.
  • Use computer tools to construct titration curves and log-log diagrams for acid-base systems and use them to find relevant properties.
  • Prepare, perform, document, and report results from different chemical analytical methods.
  • Perform quantitative analysis independently and accurately and evaluate the uncertainty of the results.

  • Laboratory work: 60 hours, with compulsory attendance and report submissions

Evaluation

All compulsory work requirements (laboratory course, exercises) must be approved to take the final written exam. The final written exam is weighted at 100/100, and permitted aids include specified printed and hand-written support material (Support material code C) and a specific basic calculator. In case of a postponed examination, the written examination may be changed to an oral examination.
