Course Description
The course AAR4725, Architecture and the City - Knowledge Course B, is a 7.5 credit course offered at the second degree level. It is conducted in English and Norwegian and takes place over one semester, starting in the spring of 2026, in Trondheim.
Course Content
The course contains theoretical or knowledge-based studies within the field of architecture, connected to and in relation with the current task description and theme from the attached design course AAR4721 Architecture and the City - Project Course B. The study is conducted based on a task description formulated by the same responsible individual as in the attached design course.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
- The candidate achieves advanced and new knowledge within the knowledge field of architecture related to the theme of the design project in the attached design course.
- The candidate has advanced and relevant aesthetic and practical understanding (tacit knowledge) and shows progression of this.
- The candidate develops an advanced experiential knowledge of the relationship between architectural representations at different levels of abstraction, and built architecture, towns, and cities that are in use over time.
- The candidate has advanced knowledge of different aspects of sustainability and can relate these in known and new ways to their own work.

- The candidate is in command and develops their use of a range of architectural methods, tools, and forms of expression.
- The candidate is able to critically assess and recognize quality in architecture and/or cities and towns and can make use of such assessments in their own work.

Admission and Requirements
Specific Conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required: Architecture (MAAR) or Architecture (MAAR2).
Required Previous Knowledge
Completed three years of basic courses in architecture, a bachelor's degree in architecture, or equivalent. The course is the main element of a combination with AAR4721 Architecture and the City - Project Course B, which must be taken in the same semester.

Examination
Examination Arrangement
The examination arrangement is an assignment, with a weighting of 100/100. The ordinary examination takes place in the spring of 2026, and the re-sit examination is in the summer of 2026. Both examinations use the Inspera Assessment system.
