Course Overview

Course Description

The course deals with Western art and Norwegian art, covering the history of modern art from romanticism to the present day. The period is characterized by industrialization, colonialism, and the emergence of new economic powers. In the 19th century, art emerged as an autonomous, free activity, liberated from the demands of patrons. The course also addresses the establishment of the concept of avant-garde art, women gaining access to art education, and their fight to enter the art world. Additionally, it covers globalization and postcolonial tendencies in our time.
